Sea to Sea Day 7-8

Jan 21st, 2009 by Mary | 1

Day 7 Matiguas to Boaco- 49 miles with lots of hills

I have to admit that my legs were tired from the day before. My bum was not too happy either. While I was in the States, “Bag Balm” had come highly recommended and boy am I glad that someone thought to mention it! (Thanks Julie!) “Bag Balm” became community property and was in hot demand!

Sign says: Caution: Cow Crossing

I saw something today that I had never seen before. I saw a man riding a huge bull…down the main road…with saddle in place…walking at a nice leisurely pace. And of course, he had his cowboy hat on…the cowboy…not the cow. I wish I had a picture of this crazy site!
The Lord’s Supper with Gatorade and tortillas??? Is that kosher? I don’t know, but it was an awesome experience to break bread together after 6 1/2 hours of riding that day.

Day 8 Boaco to Managua – 52 miles on “smooth” pavement with only a few hills

As we approached the city limits of Managua I began to tear up just thinking about our journey nearing its end. We had really bonded as a team and faced so many challenges along the way. I was sad and didn’t want the adventure to end. Ok, moving on…when we got to Managua…there was a crowd of people from Accion Medica Cristiana welcoming us to Managua! They held banners, clapped, and cheered as we rode into the hotel parking lot across from the Managua airport. It was incredible feeling to be so warmly welcomed “home” after 8 days on the road.
