Camping on the Beach

Feb 25th, 2009 by Mary | 0

After work on Friday me and 3 buddies loaded up our tents, boogie boards, and sunscreen and headed for the beach.  We cooked hotdogs over a small fire on the beach and watched a gorgeous sunset.

It was a “moonless” night, but the waves seemed to “glow” as they rolled into shore.  When we walked out to the ocean’s edge to investigate the glowing waves, we noticed a fluorescent yellow line appear in the sand as the water receded back into the ocean.  We began to stomp around in the soupy sand and laugh as we played in the dinoflagellate-infested water. (Actually I am not sure what was glowing, but that’s my best guess). Our footprints literally glowed 10 feet behind us as we walked along the beach. Even our playful splashes in the shallow water glowed as they flew through the air. We kept saying we felt like we were in an animated Disney movie!  After a fun-filled time at the ocean’s edge, we returned to our campfire, solved nearly all of the world’s major problems and called it a night.

For those of you who know me well, you will be surprised to hear that I was boogie boarding well before 8AM the next morning! The air and water temperatures were perfect and the whole trip was just a blast.
